Members present were Deb Lewis, Joey Couch, Rick Boggess, Carla Ruschival, Bill Deatherage, Debbie Deatherage, Gerry Slusher, Natalie Beyers, Elaine Weisbard, Adam Ruschival, “Cisco” Slusher, Matt Selm, Bill Wright, Frank Campbell and Michelle Haycraft. Deb Trevino, Patti Cox and Bill Roberts were absent.

President Deb Lewis called for reading the July 20 board meeting minutes and summary. Since a copy had been given to board members in advance, Joey Couch made a motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes and summary and for their approval. The motion was seconded by Elaine Weisbard and unanimously approved.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Carla Ruschival presented her report for June. She reported she did not have the July report complete. Elaine Weisbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion was seconded by Bill Deatherage and unanimously approved.

Chapter Reports

Eastern Kentucky Christian Council – Frank Campbell reported the chapter met on July 25. Members shared information and went to Dairy Queen. The next meeting has not been scheduled.

Northern Kentucky Council – Gerry Slusher reported the chapter has not had a regular meeting. They used part of the money received from the city of Covington to host bingo at the Golden Towers senior facility. About 50-60 people participated. They awarded door prizes and had coffee and cake with the residents. They will be having a meeting and elections on August 20.

Greater Louisville Council – Bill Wright reported that a couple of new people have been attending the GLCB Friday which is held each Friday from 3:30 to 10 at United Crescent Hill Ministries. Before dinner they work on braille, family trees, technology and more. After dinner they have crafts and games.

Tri-State Library Users Group – Adam Ruschival reported that Michael McCarty demonstrated some apps at a recent GLCB Friday night activity. The chapter has about 250 books (mostly cassettes) which Carla is organizing. At present the chapter does not have a meeting scheduled.

Guide Dog Users of Kentucky – President Deb Lewis welcomed Michelle Haycraft as the new Guide Dog users representative on the board. Michelle has been out of touch with things since she has been at Leader Dogs getting her new guide dog. Deb Lewis reported the chapter continues to sell candy and folding scissors. The next meeting will be on August 24 on the conference line.

Support Alliance of the Visually Impaired – Rick Boggess reported that 16 members and 2 guests attended the chapter’s August 11 meeting. Participants discussed paratransit and explored the possibility of ordering t-shirts. The chapter will have a booth at a senior citizens activity at the mall on September 24 and is making plans to hold a White Cane Day celebration on October 20.

KCB Next Generation – Matt Selm reported the chapter held a pool party and went out to eat at Logan’s on July 25. Several members attended Crossroads this past weekend and there are plans to have a chapter meeting in September.

Committees

PR/Membership – Rick Boggess reported the committee met on August 5. Much of the discussion was related to KCB’s new web page and email. Work will begin on the newsletter shortly. Committee members hope to establish contacts on the campuses of the four year colleges in coming months. Carla Ruschival stated that each chapter now has an email address which needs to be monitored with any responses coming from that email address. She also reported that the email lists will eventually move to www.kentucky-acb.org with the board list being the first to move.

Crossroads – Deb Lewis reported that about 40 people attended the Crossroads Leadership Conference on August 14-15. The response to the event seemed very positive. Matt Selm agreed to work with Deb Lewis to create a survey on Survey Monkey to solicit feedback about the conference. Carla Ruschival pointed out that Skype, Facetime and Periscope have tremendous potential for doing outreach with chapters. Rick Boggess would like to do additional work on creating groups in Skype and encouraged Skype users to contact him to assist. Bill Deatherage indicated he would be willing to assist.

Carla Ruschival pointed out that United Crescent Hill Ministries did not charge for the use of their facility for the Crossroads Conference. She made a motion that KCB donate $300 to UCHM for use of the facility. Joey Couch seconded the motion. In response to a question from Rick Boggess, Carla reported that the cost for holding the event at the Ramada would have been about $1700. The motion was unanimously approved.

Old Business

Carla Ruschival reported that people have not received the CD edition of Sound Prints since late June. The program is not produced during convention week and there have been problems with the CD burner. David Moore, who provides local computer support, will burn CD copies until the new burner is received. He is also helping produce cd copies of the handout from Crossroads. Copies for the weeks missed will not be mailed unless requested. Those with computer access can download the missing weeks from the website. Carla Ruschival reported the 2015 editions of Sound Prints are available as podcast feeds and may be available through iTunes once we come up with a graphic. Sound Prints from previous years will be made available in a section called “classic Sound Prints” but will not be available as podcast feeds. We will need help getting those uploaded.

New Business

Adam Ruschival reported that the Kentucky School for the Blind Charitable Foundation will hold its annual golf tournament fundraiser at Oxmoor Country Club on September 3. Adam made a motion that KCB donate $150 to support one hole at the KSB Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament. Elaine Weisbard seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.

Deb Lewis and Carla Ruschival shared a lengthy list of new appointments to the State Rehabilitation Council. New appointees are Ashley D. Taylor, Murray; Vanessa G. Jones, Versailles; Angela D. Anderson, Jeffersonville; Todd E. Stephens, Ashland; Deborah J. Culpepper, Taylor Mill; Daniel Scott Heads, Owensboro; Peggy Sinclair-Morris, Crestwood; Stephanie Sharp, Owensboro; Rodger “Grant” Logsdon, Louisville; and Nancy Clayton, Hebron. Dennis R. Franklin of Louisville was reappointed. There is still one vacancy for a Labor and Industry position due to Carla Webster’s resignation last week. The July 24 SRC meeting, which had to be cancelled due to the fact that the appointments had not been made, will have to be rescheduled soon since they are required to meet quarterly.

Rick Boggess asked for an update on attempts to change the KCB IRS filing status. Carla Ruschival indicated there is some concern about our having special interest and regional chapters. She will be getting back with the IRS. We should have a better idea on how to proceed by September.

Adam Ruschival inquired about when the KCB convention planning committee will begin meeting. Joey Couch reported he is working to schedule a meeting at 8 PM on August 20. He hopes to know by tomorrow.

Announcements and Adjournment

Carla Ruschival made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was seconded by Natalie Beyers and unanimously approved. The meeting adjourned at 9:08 PM.
